| WISER Recycling
WISER Recycling was set up in 2002, incorporated in 2003, with
a view to establishing a cost effective and environmentally friendly
means of collection and recycling of Waste Electrical and Electronic
Equipment (WEEE). The aims and objectives of the Recycling company
were to provide a specialist service for WEEE wastes whilst being
innovative in minimising environmental emissions.
In particular we viewed the structure of lamps and lighting as
providing considerable bulk for transport purposes. Using the TubeEater
to reduce lamp bulk at the collection point, has meant that WISER
can collect other WEEE wastes within a single collection, reducing
costs and transport requirements, and making an impact on our own
and our customers carbon footprint.
We are the sole European distributor for the TubeEater
on-site crushing equipment, and the first UK company whose lamp
treatment process incorporates bag emptying, mobility and operates
on waste cooking oil. Our treatment process holds an Environmental
Permit and an Environment Agency issued Accredited Approved Treatment
Facility (AATF) for WEEE equipment.
Our key achievement is the treatment of lamps to such a high standard
to enable us to supply glass cullet back to the lamp manufacturing
industry – Philips Lighting in Holland. We believe we are
the only UK based company to close the loop on lamp recycling and
one of only 5 in Europe.
Legal Compliance
WISER Recycling procedures are set out within our fully integrated
Management System and ensure that all Duty of Care, Hazardous Waste
Regulations, and audit trail requirements are fully documented and
records maintained. The Group is certified to the ISO14001 standard.
Our sister company WISER is a specialist in Management Systems
and conducts internal audits of our documentation and operations.
External auditing is conducted by Bureau Veritas and our many customers.
Our treatment plant operates under an Environmental Permit and
an AATF licence. Our evidence generation and operations are conducted
fully in compliance with the AATF requirements and the WEEE Regulations.
Our WEEE treatment is conducted at the fully permitted facility
or at registered exempt sites.
The TubeEater has been viewed and
fully assessed by the Health and Safety Executive. We maintain a
regular and open dialogue with our local and national Environment
Agency offices with respect to our legal requirements, and actively
participate in consultation documents related to our businesses.
Our end of life glass cullet is exported to the lamp manufacturing
plants in Europe through our own Approved Exporter certification
for WEEE. |
